From review stands to rankings.
Two businesses. One of them wound down on purpose.
My first proper business was TapSmart, selling NFC review stands to London small businesses, the little tap-to-review devices you see on counters. It worked, and it taught me something more valuable than the revenue did.
I spent a couple of years inside hundreds of local businesses’ Google profiles. Same story almost everywhere: profiles set up once and forgotten, wrong categories, no reviews coming in, owners who had no idea they were invisible three streets from their own door. Businesses that were genuinely good at what they did, losing work to competitors who weren’t, purely because of what Google understood about them.
That was the more interesting problem. So I wound TapSmart down and started Pinpoint Growth.
The temptation early on is to say yes to everything: social media, email, whatever’s asked for. I did some of that and it made me worse at all of it. Now the entire business is local search for service businesses.
Narrower, and considerably better.
